Chapter Ten - Dress for success
Chapter Ten
Dress for success

It took sometime before they found a shop that sold both men’s and women’s fashions and that met Sark’s strict standards.  She reminded him of their money situation to which he responded by nicking another money pouch.  Shortly after that incident they noticed a law official patrolling the area and she made Sark promise not to steal anything else while they were town.  All they needed was to get caught stealing, who knew what kind of punishment this world could come up with.

Her and Sark were taken to separate ends of the clothing shop by assistants and fitted with several outfits until they found the ones they liked.  Sydney choice a deep blue dress, the darker fabric would hide stains better than her white dress had.  The sleeves fit snugly until her elbows where they flared out down to her wrists.  The neckline curved down dramatically, revealing the swell of her breasts and a hint of cleavage.  It buttoned up the back with a row of tiny buttons and was belted low around the waist with a pleated gold braid belt.  The full skirt flowed down to feet leaving her new sensible dark blue slippers to peek out from beneath the hem.

Returning to the front of the shop she was unsurprised that Sark had yet to reappear, the man took more time getting ready than a women.  She chuckled at the thought and turned when she heard a sound.  Sark had appeared and a breath caught in her throat.  He always wore a suit, but the tailored slate grey suit he now wore seemed perfect on him.  The suit coat was left unbuttoned revealing the expanse of the mandarin collared shirt, almost the exact same shade as her dress.  The collar too was unbuttoned exposing the sleek lines of his throat.  A slate grey double breasted vest covered the shirt and ended with a straight cut at the waist of the matching slacks.

She finished her perusal of him and noticed that he seemed as taken aback by her appearance as she was by his.

“You look… divine.”  He complemented walking up to her.

She demurely lowed her eyes before looking back up through her lashes, “Thank you.  You look very handsome.”

He slowly smiled at her and she smiled back.  After paying they donned their cloaks and stepped back onto the street.

“Now what?”  She inquired and took his proffered arm as they began strolling down the street.

“The clothes, while well worth it,” he turned his gaze to unabashedly run over her figure again, “Set us back a bit more than we’d budgeted for.”

“No stealing.”  She warned him, tempering the words with a cheeky smile.

He sighed dramatically, “Now who’s no fun.”

She giggled at his pouting face then pulled him to a stop, “Look!”  She nodded her chin at the powder blue sign in front of them.  “Lucky-In-Love Casino” was fancily painted on the sign with an arrow pointing the way.  She quirked an eyebrow at him.

At his hesitation she led him in the proper direction, “It’ll be fun.”  He remained unconvinced.  “If we don’t win anything I promise I’ll let you steal another couple of pouches.”

“Right, so I’ll be the one who gets arrested and not you.”  He unconvincingly grumbled.

“I have the utmost confidence in your pick pocketing abilities.”  She airily told him.  Both grinning they stepped into the casino.
